Emergency Warden Training
This training course will provide employees with the knowledge and skill to act as Emergency Wardens in the workplace. Emergency Wardens are also referred to as Fire Wardens, Building Wardens or Evacuation Coordination Instructors. This course meets the employer obligations under the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 for Wardens, Area Wardens and Chief Wardens.
The course content covers emergency preparedness, emergency identification, assessment of risk, understanding of human behaviour during an emergency situation and effectively planning for all types of emergencies within an organisation. The course complies with the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 and AS3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities.
The course is for those participants who have been delegated to perform the role of Emergency Warden, Area Warden, Floor Warden, Deputy Chief Warden or Chief Warden.
What Do I Get?
Your organisation will receive a customised training solution where your employees and contractors will be trained to your own emergency plans and procedures. Upon booking a course, our team member will ask for the following documents:
- Emergency Plan - this document should outline who the wardens are for your organisation, and how emergency evacuation has been planned.
- Fire and Evacuation Procedures - these are often included in the plan. If they are not, we will require a copy.
- Evacuation Diagram or Sign - again, this may be in your plan. If not, you need to supply a copy, or take a photo of the one on the wall.
- A photo of the outside of your building.
- A digital version of your logo (high-resolution and prefereably with a transparent background).
Once you have supplied your plans and diagrams, your customised course will include the following:
- Your logo on the presentation
- Your evacuation diagram will be shown and explained in the course
- A picture of your building will be shown, and if you have a fire control panel, this will also be shown and explained
- Any procedures you have will be distributed and discussed as part of the course
- A Fire and Evacuation Instruction Record logbook will be supplied
For those choosing non-accredited training, if you would like our trainer to conduct an evacuation drill as part of the course, this will cost extra, and you will need to allocate a further hour to the end of the course. A record of the evacuation drill will be documented and provided to you for your files.
Further to the above, if you would like our organisation to further customise your training, and include your emergency procedures within the presentation, this can be arranged. This development work will take between 2-4 hours (depending on the complexity of your procedures) and will incur an hourly rate. Feel free to contact the office for a quote.

Course Outcome
Training is conducted either at our training premises or on-site at your premises.
You have a choice of undertaking accredited or non-accredited versions of this course - see options down the right hand side of this page. Either version is compliant under the legislation. The delivery and course content is the same for both versions. The only difference is with the accredited version, participants will be required to undertake theory and practical assessment, and the evacuation drill is a mandatory component of the accredited option, which adds approximately 3 hours to the course.
Participants who successfully complete all assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment for PUAFER005 Operate as part of an emergency control organisation and PUAFER006 Lead an emergency control organisation at the conclusion of the course.
If you choose to do the non-accredited version, there will still be informal questions and practice tasks to ensure understanding, however no formal assessment will be conducted. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for undertaking the course. If organisations want a practice evacuation drill included in this delivery, please allow an extra hour.
A Fire and Evacuation Instruction Record will be provided on completion of either course as required under the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008.
Is Recertification Required?
Refresher training for Wardens and Chief Wardens should occur every 12 months.
Course Venue & Equipment
Where courses are conducted on-site then a suitable venue with either data projector or television monitor with HDMI are to be provided by the client company. The venue shall have sufficient space for the participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of training. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company. Please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements if there is any difficulty in providing these facilities and equipment.
State of the Art Digital Simulation
Total Management and Training utilises the BullEx BullsEye Laser Driven Fire Training System. BullsEye senses where the user aims and sweeps a laser training extinguisher and automatically varies the LED driven digital flames in response. The BullsEye’s electronic control system responds to the trainees’ actions, putting the fire out only when the extinguisher is used correctly. Because only laser light is emitted from the training extinguisher, extinguisher training can now be conducted in training rooms, board-rooms, meeting rooms — virtually anywhere.
We can also create realistic training scenarios in any environment. The BullsEye can be positioned in hallways, hotel rooms, ship decks, shop floors, or storage areas to create a variety of realistic training experiences.
If you would like this experience as part of your emergency warden training, please let our staff know when booking a course. Please note extra time/fees will be applicable (see pricing in the side bar).
Training Out of Area
Where training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area additional costs will be applicable. Any air fares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be on-charged. Mileage (if driving) and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.
Make It Happen
Contact our office to book a dedicated course for your organisation. Please ensure you advise whether you want the course to be accredited or non-accredited, and any optional extras you may wish to include. Dates will be scheduled on receipt of booking.
Optional - Mini-Inspection
The audit consists of a 1 hour 'mini-inspection' prior to the training delivery, where the trainer will spot-check a section of the facility where the training is to take place, to determine fire safety compliance with regards to evacuation signage and emergency equipment.
A checklist showing the result of the mini-inspection will be provided to the client at the conclusion of training.
Please note the mini-inspection is only available as part of delivery of a training course.
If you would like a complete facility fire safety inspection, or need to have your evacuation diagrams amended or created, please contact our office for a quote.
